On May 6th, 2025, we welcomed the eighth edition of this special series, continuing a tradition that has captivated collectors and investors worldwide. Today, we will take a closer look at the latest release and share the story behind the entire Australian Emu coin series.
About the series
The Australian Emu bullion coin series pays a tribute to one of Australia’s most iconic animals and a symbol of the nation’s spirit. Launched in 2018 through a collaboration between The Perth Mint and Metal Market Europe, this exclusive series quickly became one of the favorites among investors and collectors worldwide. Each year, the series features a new design showcasing the emu in its native habitat, reflecting the bird’s importance in Australia's culture and a prominent place on its coat of arms. Every edition is struck in .9999 fine Gold and Silver, and issued in limited numbers, making them sought after for both their investment and collector's value.
Editions Overview (2018-2025):
2018: The debut edition, marking the start of the series, featuring the emu in the arid outback.
2019–2023: Annual releases with designs that capture the emu’s character as well as its native and diverse Australian environment.
2024: This edition is notable for the special ‘P125’ mintmark, celebrating The Perth Mint’s 125th anniversary, and the first appearance of King Charles III’s effigy on the obverse. It portrays an emu standing on a grassy sand dune with waves crashing in the background.
2025: The newest, eighth edition. The coin’s reverse portrays an adult emu walking alongside five young chicks. The background includes a representation of a desert landscape, sky and sun. The inscription ‘AUSTRALIAN EMU’ appears within the design, along with the coin’s weight, purity, 2025 year-date, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
Among all of the struck coins, there are “few” selected specimens that represent the highest minting standards among silver investment coins. They hold a so-called NGC MS 70 First Day of Issue certification, indicating their flawless mint state and professional grading. Issues with this label come in protective packaging.
Since 2021, each edition comes in coloured silver version in the following year, making it an additionally inviting purchase for collectors. Whether you are a seasoned collector or a new investor, the Australian Emu bullion coin series offers a unique blend of heritage, artistry, and enduring value.
